Hi! We plan to go to Takayama from NGO Chubu Centrair International Airport. Is it feasible to do so if wefll arrive at the airport at 6 PM? Thank you.

The last train leaves Nagoya at 20:17. Probably okay if you arrive with a domestic flight. Not recommended if you arrive with an international flight.
Very tiring in any case. The train does not arrive in Takayama until 11pm. I'd rather stay at the airport or Nagoya and take a train the next day.

Thank you, Uji. Do we need to reserve train/bus tickets before the travel date or can we buy them on the spot? Thank you.

I would never make reservations for transportation upon arrival of a flight - especially international one - because it is very difficult to estimate when you will actually arrive and be ready to board a train or bus.

The beauty of the train trip from Nagoya to Takayama is just that: beautiful scenery. It's one of our favourite train trips I also suggest staying in Nagoya or the airport on arrival and making the train journey the next day.
