Is Aizu-Wakamatsu ideal to go in New Year?

Hi there,
I am travelling to Aizu Wakamatsu in the New Year (31 Dec/1 Jan). We plan to visit Ouchijuku in 1 Jan (New Year). Is it ideal to visit in that day, will things be open?
And in general is Aizu Wakamatsu recommended for New Years period? Any activities to recommend if that is the case?
