How to get attestation from indian embassy

Hello, I'm indian and my spouse is japanese. We've registered our marriage in japanese city hall. I would like to know how to get attestation from indian embassy on our marriage certificate issued by japanese authorites. There is less or rather confusing information about this. Some says we need to re-register marriage in Indian embassy and some says attestation is enough. Please guide us. Thank you!
