Tomamu Ice Festival

Hi.
Just wondering if the ice festival is worth a visit (after having visited the one at Lake Shikaribetsu) ?
If so, are there any alternative accommodation near the festival site besides the Tomamu resort itself ?
We do not intend to ski there, just to spend a night nearby to visit the festival in the evening.
