I just came across this preserved post town in google map while planning my trip from Karuizawa to Matsumoto. It's a place I have never heard of. It seems to not have much info on the internet and seems not many people visiting it. I really wonder why. Has anyone been to this place and what do you think of it?

good morning
海野宿 Unnojuku is acclaimed as one of Hundred Best Roads「日本の道100選」and a designated National Conservation District of Traditional Buildings「重要伝統的建造物群保存地区」 there was a fair bit of information about it online in japanese so perhaps it is relatively less well known among foreign visitors which maybe a bonus
have a wonderful trip~

I have not visited it either... My guess is that: 1) it is too small to be a destination in itself 2) quite far from Matsumoto by train (one might as well visit Tsumago/Magome) 3) from Nagano, Matsushiro is closer, and cheaper to get to 4) Karuizawa does not seem very popular with foreigners either (I only visited as a day trip because hotels were quite expensive in that area...), and it's still 40 minutes by train from there

Thanks both.
@Mellye I agree Karuizawa is expensive, not only for accommodation but food as well. I planned to visit Kumoba Pond, but it seems I'm too early for autumn foliage and the pond doesn't seem that attractive without it. Hence, I'm looking for a substitute and found this place. I'll be driving this time, so this is probably the place for me :)
