JR Pass to and from Hagi/Akiyoshido

Hi all, I'm planning to visit Hagi and Akiyoshidō (on separate days) from Yamaguchi.
I understand that the JR Buses plying the routes between those places and Yamaguchi/Shin-Yamaguchi Stations are covered by the JR Pass, but does one need to obtain tickets beforehand? Or does one simply queue up at the stop and show the pass to the driver when boarding?
