Does anybody know if the JR East South Hokkaido pass will work from Sapporo to Tomamu?

The section between Minami-Chitose and Tomamu is not covered. It would cost you an addtional approx. 3500 yen.

I had a feeling it was too good to be true. Japan Travel by Navitime needs to update their site/app because it says it's covered
