Why would you want to take a bus?
You can take the Nishitetsu train from Tenjin - it'd be at least 4 times faster by limited express.
There are 2 types of tourist passes - one just for Fukuoka City and one that also includes Dazaifu, so make sure you choose the right one. There is more info you can read at:

Fukuoka is a nice city to visit with some great places to see. One of the best is the Nanzoin Temple about 20 minutes by train from Hakata Stn (not covered by the pass). It is stunning, and it is free:
