I would suggest you discuss this with your immigration lawyer in the US. Japan might not even accept your refugee documents for travel/ let alone to immigrate there. I think at a minimum you would have to apply for asylum in Japan or go through the naturalization process in the US before you immigrate to Japan. (I don't really know the answers to your questions so this is all just conjecture, but I imagine this is super complicated legally and I think whatever route you end up taking will probably take a long time ... best of luck)

Is your girlfriend Japanese ? Then potentially you can get a dependent visa once you are married but it will probably take a lot of extra scrutiny plus she would need to show that she has stable income. Which as a student she might not. Maybe her family can vouch for her. If she isnft Japanese your only route into Japan seems to be to get your own visa. For that you need either funds and can apply for a student visa or you need to have a job offering from a company in Japan. And you can get a work visa. None of these routes are easy. Once Your girlfriend has a job in Japan you could potentially come as a dependent. Again a lot of scrutiny to be expected.
So yes, speak with a lawyer for immigration into Japan.

A "seeker", so have you been granted asylum already or not? Certainly you wouldn't try that in Japan (seeking asylum). What grounds are you wanting to reside in Japan? As a student, apply for a student visa. The assessment will be based around where you are from, not necessarily the USA where you are now. Your GF will have no bearing on that (you are not married), and you certainly cannot get a dependent visa.

It's great that you're planning your future together. Being an asylum seeker in the USA could impact your visa application to Japan, as each country has specific criteria and procedures for visa approval. It's essential to consult with an immigration lawyer or a legal advisor who specializes in Japanese immigration law to get accurate advice tailored to your situation. They can help you understand any potential challenges and guide you through the process. Best of luck with your plans!

Which country are you originally from seeking Asylum from in the USA? It could depend where you're coming from as well as Japan has their own rules of what they accept or not.
