Apply dependent visa in Japan

Dear Friends,

I would like to know your opinion regarding Japanese dependent VISA. I have invited my wife to Visit Kyoto for 90 days. Now she is in Japan. I have also obtained the COE for her to apply for dependent VISA. But I obtained the COE after she has arrived in Japan. Now, for my wife, is is possible to apply for dependent VISA while living in Japan? Or, we have to go back India and then apply for dependent VISA?

Why not go to immigration office and explain your situation?

As far as I know, under “special circumstances,” it is possible to apply for “change of resident status” with the CoE while staying in Japan. In your wife’s case, because she IS in Japan now already when you received the CoE, it should be possible to apply for a change from “temporary visitor” to “dependent.”

If I were you, I’d go to the immigration bureau and file for that change.
