Car rental Kanazawa

Hi there,

Currently in Japan and wanted some car rental advice and any good local companies. I have my international driving permit with me already.

I'm staying in Kanazawa, but wanted to do a half day trip to Shirakawa and go beyond - a car would be great for this and wanted to ask if anyone knew any good rental companies in Kanazawa and what sort of prices to expect? My itinerary is this (26th Sept - 28th Sept):

1) Kanazawa on 26th
2) Shirakawa 27th + drive beyond and return to Kanazawa.
3) Kurobe alpine route via Tateyama and head back to Tokyo.

I would ideally rent on the 27th in Kanazawa, drive to Shirakawa then drop the car off at Tateyama/Kurobe alpine route on the 28th before going one way to Tokyo via Ogizawa/Nagano.

Alternate plan would just be renting solely on the 27th and returning the car back in Kanazawa and taking public transport to Kurobe on the 28th.

Umm… I don’t understand why you can’t find your answer on Google. There are more than enough car rental places in Kanazawa. Browse through them to see which ones allow you to drop of in Tateyama (if any) and see if they still have a car available.

If you have a car I would skip Shirakawago and go to Ainikura instead. Realistically you don’t need more than one gasshotsukuri village.

As far as I know, not all international driving licenses are accepted in Japan. You should research whether your country is eligible to use the international license in Japan.

a Nissan Note ePower will cost around Y37,000 excluding options and including drop off

given the last minute planning
perhaps it is best for you to visit Nissan rental car 金沢駅前店
which is only 3 minutes walk from the East Exit of JR Kanazawa Station
and explore other drop off options along the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route
as well as evaluate other car models

Thanks for the responses - I decided to just take the buses/public transport given how much it would cost, but I will definitely rent next time I'm here and drive in the countryside as it's beautiful.
