Subway Osaka metro

Please help! I am getting sooo confused trying to search on the internet for the info I need. When I go to the subway Osakametro website, it is not informative enough for someone who has zero experience purchasing a card. E.g., it mentions zones 1 - 5. But I have no idea how to interpret what each zone refers to. And I don't know the difference between standard commuter pass vs commuter pass. Even when I try to search the site or to Google for the answer.

I want to pre-pay for a 6 month period to be able to travel back and forth between Osaka near Tennoji to Nara city. How do I find out how much is the cost? How do I know what zone?
