Nakatsugawa and Narai

Hello,
We have planned to go to Nakatsugawa to do the Nakasendo Trail Tsumago to Magome. I was wondering if it is worth it to leave Osaka early in the morning and do a stop at Narai for the day and then head back to Nakatsugawa? I am travelling with my son who is 16 years old. Or should i just explore the Nakatsugawa area? BTW I have 3 whole days in Osaka so leaving Osaka early morning is not a problem.
