This might be a long shot but does anyone have recommendations of affordable but good okonomoyaki places in Osaka or Nara?
My family and I are reaching our last day on our Japan trip but we yet to have any okonomoyaki. We are going to spend the day in Nara and come back to Osaka in the evening on that day so any of these two places.
Preferably a restaurant that is foreigner-friendly. Also my father doesn't like tight spaces so we can only eat somewhere with considerable eating space.

Okonomiyaki is not expensive. Osaka is famous for Okonomiyaki ... maybe stay away from Dotonburi area as it is overly crowded, but it is also where the two most famous Okonomiyaki spots are "Namba Okonomiyaki Ajinoya Honten" and "Okonomiyaki Mizuno" ... these places will have long lines ... but you can use google maps zoom into an area then select "Nearby restaurants" then use the "cuisine" drop down menu and select "Okonomiyaki" ... there are a lot that are over 4 stars and probably won't be as busy as the two I mentioned. I think most Okonomiyaki restaurants range from 1,000-2,000 Yen per person and some of the more 'fancy' places maybe double that.

The gdoesnft like tight spaces g part might be a bit more challenging. As PP said Okonomiyaki is a cheap food. Which means it is served in relatively cheap restaurants which live from the fact that they have many customers on reduced space. Customer Ms that drink a lot of beer and might become a bit loud. Maybe going super early would make the place feel less crowded? There must be some restaurants that serve okonomiyaki in more of a restaurant style, where you have a bit more space around you. Maybe some family restaurant ? Or you could look for ones that have private rooms. It might still be quite tight but at least he is only tight with his own family.

In general as mentioned above, Okonomiyaki is relatively well priced (often easily under 2000 yen) and there are plenty of options with how it's cooked.
There are also so many options that just writing Okonomiyaki into google maps in Japan will give you plenty of options most of the time easily within walking distance.
Your biggest problem is going to be space - as the okonomiyaki restaurant is normally a large grill surrounded by seats. The cook makes the food and you eat off the seats. Due to this - space at most locations (I mean like 90% of specialty okonomiyaki restaurants) is highly at a premium.
When I used to live in Yokohama - there was a chain restaurant where you could cook okonomiyaki by yourself. Does anyone know of any chain restaurants in Japan that does this - as this location would be perfect space wise. The restaurant had lots of small hot plates with an English menu with instructions. But best of all - it had personal tables and much more space than normal okonomiyaki restaurants. I still prefer getting it cooked than cooking it myself along with the feel of the gritty restaurants they are often served in - but that's just me.
