Change status once here I guess? 2024/9/21 12:46
Hello, I am currently a long term resident in japan (filipino citizen), my mom and I plan to invite my fiancé here in japan which the embassy grants him (temporary visa - 30 days) now when he's here, my mom planned to get us married here in japan to help him have a long term or any visa that is applicable.

He's been in japan for 2 times now and my mother is constantly his guarantor. I would like to ask once we're married can he obtain his own visa with my mom being his guarantor?

is it also possible to apply for COE? I need suggestions for this hehe.

what's with the hehe..

anyone can register their marriage as long as you have all the necessary documentation ready. as for what documents you need to check with your cityhall, country embassy.

you could try for change of status but most likely be rejected and be ask to follow the standard procedure, apply for COE and then visa at Japanese Embassy.

What your fiance is trying to do it to enter Japan on gtemporary visitorh status, then apply for a gchange of statush to another status WHILE staying in Japan.
The immigration authorities always prefer the path of applicants applying for CoE while being OUTSIDE Japan, then getting the visa at the embassy, then enter Japan. But since you are not married yet, the only path you have currently available is the first one (unless you go to the Philippines and get married there, and then register the marriage with the Japanese authorities).

There is no official clear rules that says you cannot change from gtemporary Visitorh status to a longer term resident status, even though a change to work-based resident status might not be accepted at times.

Please note that when your fiancé is in Japan, youfd need to get married AND apply for a change of status (from gtemporary visitorh to either gdependenth or glong-term resident, Ifm not sure) BEFORE that 30 days expire. So please be sure to ask at city hall or your embassy in Japan beforehand about what is needed for a marriage, and make sure that you have all the documents required for a marriage in Japan ready.

About the guarantor: I believe that if it is gdependenth resident status, the spouse (you) will be the primary guarantor, because you are the one who wants your spouse to be here, and maybe your mother for financial guarantor if needed.

Best wishes.
